Oct. 17-19 - Second Annual G2 Green Earth Film Festival

On Friday October 17, The G2 Gallery will kick off its second annual G2 Green Earth Film Festival, a three-day event featuring screenings, filmmaker panels, after parties and more, all free and open to the public.

The G2 Green Earth Film Festival will screen environmentally themed documentaries that educate and entertain. This year’s lineup includes the Jeremy Irons-narrated Trashed, the Sissy Spacek-narrated Amazon Gold, and the Robert Redford-producedWatershed, along with a dozen other acclaimed films.

In addition to the award-winning films, G2 will be hosting panels with filmmakers, environmental experts and nonprofit leaders. On October 18, there will be a roundtable discussion on water conservation issues at 4 p.m. moderated by Robin Black, founder of The Owens Lake Project. On October 19, there will be a panel at 2 p.m. entitled, “Filmmaking As a Tool for Conservation.”

“The films we’re screening address environmental issues that are critically important,” says G2 Events Coordinator Elise Roberts. “We’re proud to make this event free to the public and appreciate the generosity of our wonderful donors who are supporting this festival with incredible food and drinks.”

The opening night of the G2 Green Earth Film Festival will screen Mile…Mile & A Half, a documentary about five friends who hike California’s historic John Muir Trail over the span of a month. The film will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an after party that includes pizza and beer donated by South End Venice and Angel City Brewery, live music from Opus Orange and a meet and greet with the filmmakers.

The Saturday slate of films will be headlined by Trashed, a documentary about the dangers of human consumption and how that contributes hazardous waste to all parts of the world. The film will begin at 7 p.m. with snacks throughout the day donated by Angie’s Popcorn and Newman’s Own Organics.

The closing night will screen DamNation, a SXSW Audience Choice award winner about the ways in which damns have harmed our waterways. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by an after party with food and drinks donated by Chipotle and Angel City Brewery.
