Introduced by Dr. Walter Lammerts, a rose breeder for Armstrong Nurseries, the Charlotte Armstrong rose received the All-America Award in 1941 and was designated the official flower of the City of Ontario in 1962. The rose is named in honor of Charlotte Armstrong, Ontario pioneer and wife of John S. Armstrong, founder of Armstrong Nurseries.
