Suspected Copper Thieves Caught in Park


Two men spotted at Chaparral Park, allegedly stripping insulation off copper wiring, were arrested and booked into the county jail, a sergeant told Patch.

Claremont police were called about 2:30 p.m. to investigate a report of suspects spotted stripping insulation off copper wire they had obtained elsewhere, CPD Sgt. Joe Maddox told Patch.

The men were seen doing the stripping in the park at 1869 N. Mills Ave., according to Maddox.

Investigators were trying to determine where the men obtained the wiring, which can be sold at recycling centers for cash.

The men were booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary.
