BREAKINGNEWS

An on-duty San Bernardino police officer was killed in a traffic collision involving a suspected drunk driver in Ontario early Thursday morning, police said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at Etiwanda and San Bernardino avenues, just outside of the Auto Club Speedway.

San Bernardino police said their officer had the right of way and the alleged DUI driver ran a red light, causing the crash. The police officer had just dropped off a prisoner at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga when he was broadsided by the suspected drunk driver.

The police officer was transported to Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The alleged DUI driver was also transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

No further details were immediately available. The San Bernardino Police Department will be holding a press conference at 7 a.m. to release more information and identify the police officer who lost his life.
