Suspect of stolen vehicle arrested after vehicle collides with palm tree

NARRATIVE:
During routine patrol, a Pomona Police Officer observed a vehicle driving recklessly and attempted a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued. The driver, Suspect Velez, lost control of the vehicle at Garey and Crest Haven and struck a palm tree in the center median. Suspect Velez, who was the sole occupant, sustained moderate injuries but was conscious and talking after the accident. Officers believed the vehicle to be unreported stolen vehicle and contact was made with the registered owner at which time the vehicle was confirmed to be an unreported stolen vehicle. Suspect Velez was also determined to be a parolee with a no bail warrant. Suspect Velez was treated at the scene by LA County Fire personnel and flown out to an area hospital for further medical treatment.
