Blog: Monrovia Students Will Chat Live With Astronauts in Space

 

Exciting news for MHS! Monrovia High School has been selected as one of six schools in the nation to host an International Space Station (ISS) Downlink on March 5, 2013. This means that our students will be able to chat in real time with an astronaut who is currently stationed on the International Space Station. This is an amazing, exciting opportunity for our students! NASA, MHS, and the MHS Math & Science Academy (MASA) have invited all 5th graders in MUSD to participate in this exciting opportunity. All 5th graders will be present in the auditorium for the downlink and 20 will have the opportunity to speak directly with an astronaut! These 20 students were selected from the Wildcats in Space Bookmark Design Competition. Their names will be announced on Patch next week. The 5th grade students will also complete a Visual Biography of an astronaut and build a Lego model as extensions of this fabulous event. The kick-off for the ISS Downlink Event will be held on March 2, 2013 from 10am to 2pm. MHS will be hosting a Science Expo in the MHS quad that will include multiple demonstrations, speakers, a huge robotics competition, and much, much more! Additional participants include the Santa Fe Dam RC Modelers Club, FIRST Robotics, GAVRT (Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope), Miyachi UniTek, Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), Old Town Astronomers, Pasadena Radio Club, and many more. This should be a fun time for all and the entire community is invited!
