Walnut Ranked 76th in Top 100 Safest Cities in U.S.

 

Neighborhood Scout, an online company that provides real estate data to prospective homebuyers, recently ranked the city of Walnut 76th among the “Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S.”

With a crime index rating of 67, the city of Walnut is safer than 67 percent of cities nationwide. A crime index rating of 100 indicates the safest city in America. Other area communities that made the list include Chino Hills (ranked 82), Rancho Palos Verdes (ranked 89), Yorba Linda (ranked 69) and Temple City (ranked 40). Walnut and Temple City are the only San Gabriel Valley cities that made Neighborhood Scout’s Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S. list.

The study bases rankings on total property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents, to determine the safety of a neighborhood in relation to other U.S. cities. Results are gathered from FBI data collected from over 17,000 local law enforcement agencies nationwide, including reported incidences of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

“The safety of our residents and community is top priority here in the City,” said Mayor Mary Su. “We thank our Sheriff’s Department for providing continuous exemplary service, but also to our residents who are our eyes and ears of our community, and provide information to our Sheriff’s station when they see suspicious activity. Everyone working together has helped us become one of the safest communities to live.”

Those looking to become more active in promoting neighborhood safety can participate in the Walnut Neighborhood Watch program. Residents can expect interaction with local law enforcement to discuss such pertinent issues, such as crime trends and statistics, and emergency preparedness.
