City Warns of an Increase in Sanitaion Fees
The City of Claremont is warning all property owners and sanitation customers to look out for notices advising them of a proposed 2 percent Consumer Price Index, or CPI, increase to sanitation rates.
A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. May 14 so that residents can give input or protest. The city is trying to ensure that all Claremont property owners, as well as sanitation customers, received notices of the hearing, officials wrote in a news release.
Claremont officials put out an alert on the city website on April 2. Staffers used an address database from the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office as well as the city's existing sanitation customer database, officials said.
“The two databases were merged and duplicate addresses were flagged by the computer system and deleted,” officials said through a written news release. “Although the city made efforts to delete duplications, there have been a small number of reports where duplicate mailings were received due to small variances in the addresses that were not identified by the computer system. Households that receive two protest forms may return either one to have their vote counted.”
The city also received some reports of county residents receiving the mailing due to their inclusion on the LA County Assessor's Office database, officials said. The proposed 2 percent CPI increase applies only to households that receive sanitation service through the c ity of Claremont, officials said.
For more information about the proposed fee increase may call the Community and Human Services Department at (909) 399-5431.
