Diamond Bar, Walnut Artists Sought to Have Work Displayed at State Capitol

State Senator Bob Huff announced this week that the deadline has been extended for local artists to be considered in the California State Senate Art Show.
The Diamond Bar representative says the deadline has been pushed by to April 19 to encourage additional submissions in the contest from the 29th Senate District.
"Senator Huff will select the entry that best represents his district, which covers portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties," a press release from his office stated. "The winning entry will be displayed at the Capitol from June 2013 – September 2014."
The art competition, which can include a variety of art media, is open to all ages and is hosted throughout the state by local politicians.
"Artwork entries can include oil paintings, works on paper, weavings, wall hangings and sculpture,” said Senator Huff. “However, the works must be no larger than three feet by five feet, as space at the State Capitol is limited. The purpose of this event is to showcase California’s original artists.”
In 2011, a woman who has lived in the Walnut and Rowland Heights area since 1979 won the contest.
Marilyn Nettles, a retired school teacher, submitted a painting of mustard flowers in late season, which was on display at the state capitol for a year.
To enter this year's contest, send an image of the entry to Huff's district director via email at tim.shaw@sen.ca.gov. Make sure to put "California State Senate Art Show Submission" in the subject line, and also provide a brief description as to why you feel your artwork best represents the district.
Artists can submit as many entries as they'd like, but they need to be in no later than April 19
