Jewish Federation of San Gabriel, Pomona Valleys Presents 'Mame'

Organizers with the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys' Cultural Arts Program are planning a production of the 1960s Broadway musical "Mame" in Arcadia.
"Mame" first opened on Broadway in 1966, starring Angela Lansbury and Beatrice Arthur, according to theater historians. The production was a hit and it led to a 1974 film with Lucille Ball in the title role and Arthur reprising her supporting role. There was also a London production, a Broadway revival, and a 40th anniversary revival at the Kennedy Center in 2006.
Promoters for the Arcadia production ask:
"Who is Mame? Some of Mame's wild, adventurous spirit is inside everyone who lives for the moment and believes that 'life is a banquet!' It's the height of the 1920s and Auntie Mame becomes the guardian for her 10-year-old nephew, Patrick. Her life is turned upside down, many of her priorities change, but she still lives life to the fullest."
Six performances are scheduled in Arcadia beginning April 13 in the converted synagogue that serves as the headquarters of the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, 550 S. Second Ave.
Tickets are $36 for premier seating, $25 for general, and $10 for children and students with an I.D., organizers said.
