Updated: Power Outage Leaves 1,976 Walnut Residents in the Dark

Updated 5:05 p.m.
Power remains out for 228 Walnut Southern California Edison customers. Crews are still working to fix the equipment failure and power is expected to be fully restored by midnight.

A total of 1,976 Walnut residents were without power today after faulty equipment caused an outage in the area of Amar Road and Calaveras Drive.
The electricity went out at 3:51 a.m. and by 6:24 a.m., repair crews on the scene had restored power to all but 228 customers, said Michelle Aguirre, a Southern California Edison spokeswoman.
The remaining customers are expected to get their power restored some time today, Aguirre said.
The outage affected the area bordered to the north by Highland Terrace Drive, Currier Road to the south, Lemon Avenue to the east, and Amber Valley Drive to the west, she said.
Creekside Park-area resident Diane Chinn said she was first told that the outage would be two or three hours, but later was informed that it could Friday before her power gets restored.
“Everybody’s coming out of their house and walking around,” she said.  “People are coming out in their jammies. I am seeing more parents walking their babies.”
Chinn said the outages happen often in her neighborhood, but typically in the summer and overnight when most residents are sleeping.
Patch will update this post as more information becomes available.
