Workers Compensation Fraud to be Topic at Claremont Chamber Breakfast

Attendees of the upcoming Claremont Chamber of Commerce Networking Breakfast will get a lesson on workers' compensation fraud.
The chamber's guest speaker at the May 14 event will be John Morris, head deputy of the Healthcare Fraud Division for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
"More workers’ compensation fraud occurs in Los Angeles than in any other area of California," officials said in a news release. "Unfortunately, each year the crimes grow more widespread and sophisticated, including claimant fraud, premium fraud and complex fraudulent activity involving cappers, (The runner or capper recruits the occupants to be involved in a staged (or paper) accident), medical bills, interpreters and pharmacies."
Morris will discuss the following:
  • Identifying when an employee is committing workers’ compensation fraud
  • What to do when you suspect you are being victimized
  • The Underground Economy: Leveling the playing field for honest businesses.
The breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Claremont, 555 W. Foothill Boulevard.
