Check Fraud Traced to South Pas Post Office Burglary

If you mailed a check at the post office during July 13-15, police suggest you confirm with the recipient that it was received.

Did you mail a check at the U.S. Post Office in South Pasadena post office on July 13, 14 or 15?
If so, police suggest you check with the recipient because a burglary that occurred during that same time has been traced to several reports of checks being altered or cashed, said Officer Richard Lee.

The victims said they dropped their checks into the outgoing mail slot inside the post office. But between 2 p.m. July 13 and 1:38 a.m. on July 15 an unidentified person pried opened a door to gain entry into the employee area, and stole an undetermined amount of mail.
Lee suggests people check with whomever was supposed to receive the mailed checks, especially if they were going to a credit card or mortgage company. Further, he suggests that potential victims review their bank accounts and credit card accounts for any unauthorized activity.
