Claremont to Start Work on Foothill and Mills Traffic Signal Today

The signal is being modified to add a right-turn arrow at the intersection to aid motorists turning onto westbound Foothill Boulevard from Mills Avenue.

Crews were expected to start work today on a traffic signal modification project at Foothill Boulevard and Mills Avenue.

The project involves adding a right-turn overlap phase for traffic traveling southbound on Mills Avenue, according to the city of Claremont's website. The overlap will add a right-turn green arrow for Mills Avenue traffic turning right onto westbound Foothill Boulevard, officials said.

"The right-turn arrow will be activated at the same time that the left turn phase from eastbound Foothill to northbound Mills is activated, and the two phases will then overlap," staff wrote in the city manager's weekly update.

The changes to the signal are part of the requirements for Harvey Mudd College's Master Plan.  A study conducted showed that the intersection needed a right-turn green arrow to handle traffic volumes during peak hours, officials said.
