Man's Body Found in Claremont Wilderness Park

Claremont police say the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office is investigating the death.

A man was found dead in Claremont Wilderness Park after an hours-long search for the individual, police report.

According to Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters, the Upland man's family contacted the department at 9:52 a.m. Thursday and reported "...that their family member had gone into the Claremont Wilderness Park to possibly harm himself."

"Officers responded and immediately closed down and evacuated the Wilderness Park," he said.

At that point, the department was helped out by the Pasadena Police Department, who brought their helicopter to the scene for an aerial search of the man, according to Walters.  However, they were unsuccessful in locating him.

"A request for assistance was made of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue team and the search of the park continued," Walters said.

A few hours later, the man was found dead.

"At about 3:55 pm, Search & Rescue team members located the body of a deceased individual," Walters reported, adding that the L.A. County Coroner's office is now investigating the death.
