DUI Arrests Down During New Year's Holiday Period
By City News Service
Drunk driving arrests by the California Highway Patrol were slightly down during this holiday period in Los Angeles County in comparison to last year and although five people died in crashes, none of them were killed locally.
For the 12-hour, New Year's reporting period that began 6:01 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. today, the CHP arrested 76 people in L.A. County as compared to 83 during the same period in 2013. Statewide, DUI arrests followed the same trend with 324 people arrested this year as opposed to 334 last year.
Five people were killed in vehicle crashes statewide, one more than in 2013, according to the CHP. None of the vehicle deaths occurred in L.A. County.
These statistics include arrests made only by the CHP. The CHP
investigates all deaths on freeways and in unincorporated areas of L.A. County,
and its death toll summary sometimes lags behind as reports trickle in from
various police agencies.
