FEBRUARY 5TH, 2014 – NATIONAL WEATHERPERSON’S DAY

National Weatherperson's Day.

                                               NATIONAL WEATHERPERSON’S DAY

It’s 2:00 a.m. and you wake up to a loud crack of lightning.  You then notice that the weather outside is not so nice.  So you go and turn on your radio or TV to find out what is going on.  We may take it for granted, but your local weather person is there, broadcasting the current weather situation and what action you may need to take.
The job of a weather person can be extremely demanding and very necessary.  So go out of your way today and thank your weather person for the great job they do.
National Weatherperson’s Day (formerly known as National Weatherman’s Day) is celebrated annually on February 5th.  This day also recognizes all individuals in meteorology, weather broadcasters, volunteer storm spotters and observers as well as others involved in the field of weather.
As one of America’s first weather observers, Dr. John Jeffries kept weather records from 1774 to 1816.  Jeffries took his first balloon observation in 1784.  Born February 5th, 1744, Jeffries made significant contributions to the science of Meteorology is this day was dedicated in his honor.
