Office of the Assessor Sponsors Free Business Property Tax Seminars

The seminars help taxpayers prepare and file 2014 Business Property Statements.

The County of Los Angeles Office of the Assessor will host free business seminars to help businesses prepare and file their 2013 Business Property Statements (Form 571-L). The seminars are for business owners who are required to file the annual Business Property Statement. The seminars also include instructions on how to E-File Form 571-L.
Each year Business Property Statements are mailed by the Assessor to most commercial, industrial, and professional businesses. Business Property Statements help determine the assessed value for Business Personal Property, such as fixtures and equipment, for tax purposes. Assessable Business Personal Property includes all property, except inventory items held for sale or lease and real estate owned and/or used by a business.
Businesses and apartment owners with personal property and fixtures valued at $100,000 or more must file a Business Property Statement each year by April 1st. A penalty will be applied for statements post-marked after May 7th.   Generally, businesses with personal property and fixtures that cost less than $100,000 are not required to file a Business Property Statement annually.
