Things to this weekend



Friday-Sunday: It’s a wee bit early, but Fairplex in Pomona will host the annual Irish Festival. IrishFest features a village setting with pubs and authentic Irish culture. Guests can enjoy shopping, food, green beer, games and traditional entertainment including Irish dancing and Celtic music. Young guests will enjoy the medieval Kid’s Castle, and make Irish crafts like Blarney Stones, Celtic knot bookmarks and pots of gold. Hours are Friday, 6 p.m.-midnight; Saturday, noon-midnight; Sunday, noon-6 p.m. Admission is $5; free for those 5 and younger. Information: irishfestatfairplex.com or 909-623-3111.


Saturday: The city of Chino, Healthy Chino, and the Chino Valley YMCA present Bark Around Ayala Park for dogs and their owners at Ayala Park parking lot near the YMCA, 5665 Edison Ave., Chino. The free event includes a dog walk. dog fashion show, little dog races, vendors, and K-9 demonstrations by the Chino Police Department. Chino Kiwanis will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser. Dog owners must sign a waiver and provide proof of current vaccinations for their dogs, which must be on leashes. Information: 909-334-3258.

 
Saturday: The Raymond M. Alf Museum at the Webb Schools will hold its Family Science Discovery Day on extinct reptiles of the sea and air from 1 to 4 p.m. A hands-on science learning day including learning stations, touch tables and related crafts. Special admission is $3, with 4 and under free. Museum offers two large circular exhibition floors: the Hall of Life and the Hall of Footprints, offering many fossil items collected by students and staff of the Webb Schools. Saturday: Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton will hold its free eighth annual 5K Walk/Run and Fitness Expo. Check-in begins at 7 a.m., and the walk/run begins at 8:30 a.m. An awards presentation will immediately follow. The event is an outreach effort designed to raise interest in regular exercise and healthy eating. The free Expo will offer basic health screenings, stay-healthy information, fun fitness activities and challenges for the entire family. ARMC is at 400 N. Pepper Ave., Colton. Sunday: Sister Simone Campbell, nationally renowned organizer of “Nuns on the Bus,” the Catholic group advocating for social justice, will speak at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 435 Berkeley Ave., Claremont. She led two Nuns on the Bus tours to highlight poverty and social justice. The group of Catholic nuns have worked with the poor and protested planned U.S. aid cuts. Sister Simone spoke at the 2012 Democratic Convention. The public event is free. Information: 909-626-3596.
