NATIONAL GO FOR BROKE DAY

Go ahead, go for it…today is the day!  What is it??  That is for you to decide.  Are you a gambler?  If so, take a big risk, “Go for Broke”. Today might just be your lucky day as it is National Go For Broke Day which is celebrated annually on April 5.
If you are not a “gambler”, so to say, then National Go For Broke Day would be the time  to take a risk with your job, a new project you are working on, buying a new home, financial investments, relationships, travels or etc., go for it….”Go for Broke”!
We did find reference that this day is also connected to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army.  The 442 RCT was a regimental size fighting unit composed mainly of American soldiers of Japanese descent who had volunteered to fight in World War II.  The 442nd is considered to be the most decorated infantry regiment in the history of the United States Army.  ”Go for Broke” was the 442nd Regimental Combat Team motto.
Have a great day and GOOD LUCK!

NATIONAL READ A ROAD MAP DAY

National Read a Road Map Day is celebrated each year on April 5.
This day is a day to go back in time in a bit, back to the days before the GPS navigator.  There are some people that are driving now that have never used a paper road map.  Many have grown up, gotten their drivers license and learned with the GPS and other electronic  navigation devices.
Today, unfold a traditional paper road map, familiarize yourself with it and take a little trip by following the map, without using an electronic device.  Give it a try!!

NATIONAL CARAMEL DAY
Celebrated each year on April 5, it is National Caramel Day.
Caramels are made by adding milk and fat to a sugary syrup (made from a variety of sugars)  that has been heated and constantly stirred until it reaches a light brown color.
A very inexpensive candy to produce,  American women were using caramelized sugar and water to make candies as early as the seventeenth century.    Around the year 1850, it was discovered that by adding milk and a fat product to the cooked sugar mixture, a soft chewy candy would be produced.  This candy, known as caramel, very quickly became popular.
Caramel is often found used as a flavoring in coffee, candy, puddings, custard and other desserts.  It is also popular as an ice cream topping, mixed with popcorn into caramel corn, found in many candy bars, in ice cream with chocolate and nuts , on apples,  in brittles, nougats and pralines and many other things.
In the process of caramelization, the sugar is heated slowly to around 170 °C (340 °F).  As the sugar heats, the molecules break down and re-form into compounds with a characteristic color and flavor.
