A newborn girl was surrendered at a hospital in Pomona, the sixth infant turned over under the Safe Surrender law in Los Angeles County this year, county Supervisor Don Knabe announced Thursday.
The girl was surrendered Monday and placed in protective custody, Knabe said. She was the second infant received under the Safe Surrender law this month. A baby girl was surrendered June 2 at a Tarzana hospital.
"In the last few weeks, two mothers have made the difficult, but brave, choice to safely surrender their babies," Knabe said. "Now these two baby girls have the chance to grow up and be part of a loving family."
This week's infant was the 119th to be surrendered in Los Angeles County since the program began 13 years ago.
The law allows someone to surrender an infant that is no more than three days old, provided there are no signs of abuse.
