LA COUNTY FAIR GOES MID-CENTURY MODERN

The Millard Sheets Center for the Arts exhibit goes Mid-Century Modern (MCM) this year to immerse students in the wonder, imagination and excitement that colored the world of their grandparents and created so much of what we all take for granted today. Created by Tony Sheets, Millard Sheets son, the exhibition explores the 20 years following the Depression and World War Two (1945-1965) when the United States grew into the most affluent, promising, colorful and optimistic nation the world has ever known. Art, architecture, advertising, fashion, entertainment, cars, sports, travel, dance, children's products; all created a design for living that was full of choices, possibilities and excitement about the future. Employing interactive displays, storytelling, live art, a wealth of artistic designs and artifacts of the time, Mid-Century Modern aims to engage students of all ages.  Through September 28th!

After you've perused the Mid-Century Modern: Retro, Classic, Cool exhibition at the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts, step outside for free plein air painting and glass-blowing demos. Nearby take a gander at the 17-ton, 24-foot-tall statue of a ranchero carved in 1953 from a giant Sequoia by local sculptor John Svenson.
