Pomona's Southside Historical Society - Last of the originals
The last of the original street post, but not the sign. Located just outside the Pomona City Yard.
And this is what we have today, as a replacement for the old ones.
So if anyone should run into it, it can be easily replaced, by just removing the nuts and bolts. Looks like they had to replace the whole thing at one time. That little cement patch, looks like the same size as the one next to it.
I was talking to someone about these new ones, and he said these are not cheap to replace.
So there you have it, a little street post history.

Got my vote
Hey way cool, I sent Porky to go check the mail, and he came back with this. He said the little pumpkin was on top of the flyer, like a paper weight, way cool.
What did your city councilperson give you?
What water ?
The other day, I did a video about this here truck, hitting a fire hydrant. On the northwest corner of Parcels St. and First St. or was it the other way around, but anyway....
And here is what it looks like today, but there's a problem.......
The water is still running, it's kind hard to see but.....
But as you can see by this picture, yep it's still on.
Kind of ironic, the city website talks about conserving water, but yet they seem not to care. You would think the boss or who ever would come by, and make sure things are ok.
Ok I did see some numbers painted next to the curb, as you can see in the picture. So maybe they have to dig it all up, to fix the old pipe, "Can you dig it".
But in the mean time, if you have plants that need watering or maybe do a little laundry, well come on down, sorry no dryers, but hold on there's a brick wall close, so you can hang your stuff.
Porky and Dee O Gee need a bath, now where did they go ?

October 30, 2014 – NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY – NATIONAL SPEAK UP FOR SERVICE DAY
NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY
National Candy Corn Day is celebrated annually on October 30th.Candy Corn was created by George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company in the late 1800′s. He created this sweet treat to represent the pretty colors of kernels of corn. Originally, Candy Corn was yellow, orange, and white, but has become popular in other colors as well, when produced for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter.
This confection was originally made by hand using corn syrup, sugar, water, marshmallows, Fondant, and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of a palm tree), but it is now produced using machines. The originally ingredients are still used in the recipe.
Whether you are adventurous and want to go whip up a batch or go and purchase a bag, go and enjoy National Candy Corn Day.
****Enjoy****
NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY HISTORY
Within our research, we were unable to find the creator and origin of National Candy Corn Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.
SPEAK UP FOR SERVICE DAY
Speak Up For Service Day is being established to recognize the importance of telling others about the need for young people to be actively involved in community service. Too often, good deeds of service by young people go unnoticed by their communities. This Speak Up For Service Day gives recognition to the unnoticed and serves as a reminder that people should tell others about the contributions of young people to their communities.Sponsored by the Lions of North Dakota, the Speak Up For Service public speaking contest has become an annual event held in conjunction with the North Dakota State Lions Convention. Other Lions Clubs and Districts throughout North America sponsor similar public speaking contests where young people share their insight on issues of the day and the contributions of Lions to making the world a better place.
The history of the Speak Up For Service Project began in 2003 when the Fargo Lions Club initiated a public speaking contest for area high school students in honor of Laura Christensen Espejo, an woman who devoted her life to improving the health care services available to the less fortunate in the Fargo community and in Peru, the country of her husband Lucho. Lion Robert Littlefield coordinated the contest on the local level before launching it as a statewide initiative while serving as District Governor in 2010-2011.
In 2010, the first annual Lions Speak Up For Service public speaking contest was held at the North Dakota State Lions Convention held in Grand Forks. High school students who entered the competition spoke on topics related to young people and community service. Brent Johnson, a senior at Shanley High School was the first state winner of the Speak Up For Service contest. Johnson and the other contestants received scholarships for their participation in the event.
For decades, Museum members and supporters have been donating their aviation books to Planes of Fame Air Museum with the expectation that someday the Museum would open an aviation research library to the public. For many years, diligent volunteers had been working to catalog donated books, but the donations rapidly grew to exceed the cataloging process and no suitable facility for a library was available. Under the guidance of Board Member Karen Hinton, a committee was formed to find a permanent solution. Now after an intensive effort by a dedicated group of volunteers the dream of a Planes of Fame Air Museum Research Library has now been realized. With over 10,000 volumes cataloged, most of which are now on th...e library's shelves, we are pleased to announce the grand opening on November 15th, 2014.
In celebration of this remarkable milestone, the Museum is excited to announce ‘The Planes of Fame Air Museum Research Grand Opening and Book Fair’ scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2014. The event will be held at the Planes of Fame Air Museum in the Maloney Hangar from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 am.
For the Book Fair, we are inviting authors to sell their books and provide a reading. Participating authors are: (we will be adding more authors)
Dan King: "The Last Zero Fighter" and "A Tomb Called Iwo Jima"
Wilbur Richardson: "Aluminum Castles"
Mike Cimenera: “The Aircraft Designers: A Grumman Historical Perspective”
Thomas Cleaver: "Fabled Fifteen, the Pacific War Saga of Carrier Air Group 15"
Mark Carlson: "Flying on Film: A Century of Aviation in the Movies, 1912-2012"
You are invited to join us on this wonderful occasion!

Pomona's Southside Historical Society, DUCKS BOWLING ALLEYS
That's right folk's, at one time we had our own bowling alley, it was called DUCKS BOWLING ALLEYS.
It was located on the southwest corner of Monterey St. (now Ave.) and Main St.
Back in the early 60's when I was about 7 yrs. old, I use to go with my brother, and watch him and his friends bowl.
It only had four bowling alleys, but I was amazed, and still remember watching the bowling balls coming back, and resting back where they were before.
Wow, how did they do that, lol.
