Pianist Tai-Cheng Chen will perform a benefit concert Sunday at Cal Poly Pomona to help raise money to purchase three remaining pianos — to add to the 21 that were delivered to the campus last week.
If the campus can raise $270,000 to buy three more pianos, the school will become an All-Steinway School, a rare disnction.
It will also allow the school to start an endowment to maintain the pianos.
Organizers want to raise the money by the end of the year.
On Thursday it was quite a scene as the 21 brand-new pianos were delivered – the culmination of a fundraising campaign that brought together students, community leaders, alumni, faculty and staff.
Chen will perform at 4 p.m. at the campus’ Music Recital Hall.
Tickets are available online at csupomona.tix.com or at the Music Recital Hall Box Office one hour prior to show.
