LASD Employees Compete in Battle of the Badges to Donate Blood
From Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department:
Drudging through Monday mornings and facing a new work or school week can be difficult enough, sometimes. But imagine if you were a hospital patient in need of blood.
Scan the barcode below to vote for the agency you think will donate the most blood.
You might have a shift in perspective if someone you didn’t even know donated units of precious blood to help save your life…you might see every day – even hectic Mondays- as a gift.
For six hours on Monday, February 2, 2015, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hosted the American Red Cross’s ninth annual Battle of the Badges blood drive at the Sherman Block Sheriff’s Headquarters Building in Monterey Park.
Sworn and civilian personnel who work in and near the building happily made time in their day to visit the experienced technicians and professional staff from the American Red Cross, and gave either units of whole blood or red blood cells.
By the end of the event, 22 employees attempted to donate; 20 units of whole blood and one unit of red blood cells were received and will provide assistance for many patients in need.
Red Cross Blood drives are hosted regularly for Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department employees at the Headquarters Building.
The location provides a large pool of donors to help boost blood reserves and makes it convenient for coworkers to come in during a break. Most of the employee-donors are regulars; they know the value of their gifts and are proud to know they are not just providing blood, but life, opportunity and hope.
