Assemblyman, American Red Cross to hold earthquake preparedness workshop in Pomona




POMONA >> Assemblyman Freddie Rodriguez, D-Chino, and the American Red Cross working together to offer a free earthquake preparedness workshop Thursday.
The workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, Room 305 A/B, 100 Red Cross Circle, Pomona.
The program will include the participation of the a representative of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services; the manager of Cal Tech’s Office of Earthquake Programs; the executive director of the American Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley and the emergency program manager of the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management. Also participating will be Pomona’s risk manager and a member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“Just this week, scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab predicted that a magnitude 5.0 earthquake is expected to strike the L.A. area in the next three years,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “The more that can be done now to prepare will help save lives and minimize damage when the next earthquake strikes.”
