Police pursuit of wanted parolee and gang member

CRIME: Evading Police, Gang Member in Possession of a Gun & Parolee at Large
VICTIM: N / A
SUSPECT: Daniel Banuelos, 27 years old, Pomona Resident
SUSPECT VEHICLE: White Nissan Maxima
UNIT: Major Crimes Task Force
NARRATIVE:
On Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at approximately 3:15pm, Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Task Force Officers observed Suspect Banuelos driving in the area of Towne Ave and Lexington. Officers recognized Banuelos and knew he was a wanted parolee at large. Officers attempted a traffic stop on Banuelos at which time he attempted to flee from officers in the vehicle he was driving in.
A short police pursuit ensued and during the pursuit, Banuelos threw a handgun from the vehicle. The pursuit concluded when Banuelos collided into a fence in the area of Eleanor and 7th St. at which time Suspect Banuelos fled on foot from the vehicle. With the aid of the police helicopter, police officers were directed to Suspect Banuelos' location and he was taken into custody without incident.
Suspect Banuelos was the sole occupant of the vehicle and there are no outstanding suspects. A semi-automatic handgun was also recovered at the location Banuelos discarded it during the pursuit. Suspect Banuelos has been booked at the Pomona City Jail for evading the police in a vehicle, gang member with a gun and for parole violations.
