VICTIM: Martin Cano,58 years old, Pomona resident
Francisco Cruz, 51 years, Pomona resident
Rafael Hernandez, 32 years, Pomona resident
SUSPECT: Jose Cano, 35 years, Pomona resident
SUSPECT VEHICLE: N/A
UNIT: Patrol Division
NARRATIVE:
Officers were dispatched to an unknown trouble call at the location. Prior to arrival, the suspect allegedly strangled a neighbor, causing him to go unconscious and fall, resulting in a minor laceration to the head; the suspect also damaged the man's pickup. The suspect then went on to physically assault and also strangle a family friend and his father. When police arrived, they were directed to the back yard of the residence where they found the suspect standing over his father (who was seated on the ground) holding a knife.

The suspect refused to comply with verbal commands to disarm himself and was subsequently subdued with a non-lethal projectile and by the use of a taser. The man was then taken into custody after a brief physical struggle.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated, however, it appears that there was a dispute between the suspect and his father which escalated into violence. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was found to be intoxicated and had also cut himself superficially on his arm.

All injuries caused by the suspect were minor and all victims declined further medical attention after being treated at the scene by LA County Fire. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and after being treated for his injuries, was released and booked in the Pomona Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
