You’ll need to show proof of service – an ID card, discharge papers or sometimes just a photo of you in uniform. And, while family members can accompany you, they’ll have to pay.

1. Free entrance: National parks and monuments that usually charge a fee are free for everyone, not just veterans, on Friday.
2. Free haircuts: Great Clips is offering a free haircut to all veterans and military – or a card to return for a free cut on another day. And non-military customers who buy a service at Great Clips on Friday will be given a free haircut card to give to the veteran of their choice. Cards can be redeemed until Dec. 31. 4. Free thrills: Each service member and one guest can get into Knott’s Berry Farm free now until Nov. 18 and then again Nov. 28-Dec. 16. Spouses of deployed personnel are also eligible, as are widows and widowers with ID. Bring up to six more guests for a discounted rate. 5. Free Grand Slam: Denny’s is offering a free Build Your Own Grand Slam breakfast from 5 a.m. to noon, including four items such as pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit or hash browns.
6. Free pirates: Veterans and active-duty military can receive free admission to the Pirate’s Dinner Adventure show in Buena Park, general seating only. 12. Free lunch: Sizzler is offering a free lunch from one of three entrée choices: a six-ounce tri-tip steak, a single Malibu chicken or a half dozen fried shrimp. 14. Free fries: Stop the presses on this one, folks. From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. get free fries or a baked apple pie at participating So. Cal. McDonald’s locations. Don’t run over there all at once, now.
