Open to the public, Planes of Fame Air Museum (Chino, CA) presents its monthly Living History Flying Day on April 1, 2017, featuring the North AmericanB-25 Mitchell. A speaker panel of distinguished aviation experts, historians and veterans is featured, followed by a question & answer period and flight demonstration when possible. The North American B-25 Mitchell will be on display and perform a flight demonstration. At 12:00 noon, the Raffle Flight will occur. Become a member to enter the Raffle. All members are eligible to enter the Raffle, but you must be present to win.
We are proud to welcome guest speaker Cory Graff. Graffhas over 20 years experience working in aviation museums, creating exhibits, conduc...ting historical research, and educating visitors. He is the Flying Heritage Collection’s Military Aviation Curator. In the past, Graff has worked at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington, and collaborated with many other museums. Graff is the author of ten books on various aviation and military history subjects. He has written for Air & Space Smithsonian, Air Classics, Aloft Magazine, and Warbirds International. The subject of one of his more recent books will be talked about, entitled Southern California's World War II Aircraft, by Arcadia Publishing, which focuses on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego that were boomtowns during World War II. California aviation companies designed many of the greatest combat aircraft of the era, and bustling armies of women and men helped quickly churn them out by the thousands. An astounding 41 percent of all US warplanes came from California drawing boards during the war. These planes saw combat service everywhere—from the deserts of North Africa to the frozen tundra of Alaska. Southern California planes were the first to bomb Japan. They turned the tide at the Battle of Midway and dropped paratroopers behind enemy lines on D-Day. They flew tons of fuel, ammunition, and supplies over the treacherous Himalayan Mountains, relentlessly hounded enemy submarines and ships, and helped smash Nazi Germany’s war-making industry with “thousand plane raids.” Cory can be reached and all his books can be seen at: www.corygraff.com
