Burglary and Vandalism Investigation at Elementary School.

On January 28th, Pomona Police Officers investigated a Burglary and Vandalism incident at Madison Elementary School. Several classrooms were ransacked and numerous computer related items were taken. The exact cost to repair, clean up and replace the stolen items is unknown at this time until a full inventory can be completed.

Detectives and School Resource Officers are actively working the investigation following multiple leads. We take all incidents of theft seriously to include our partners at Pomona Unified School District where learning resources are critical to the success of Pomona students.

We are also simultaneously investigating a past Burglary incident at this same school which took place over the Holiday break last month. We have recovered some stolen property (iPads) from this particular incident and continue to follow the leads as they develop. No arrests have been made in these investigations as we continue to process evidence, review surveillance video and interview potential witnesses.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Pomona Police Department at (909) 620-2085.

Would be nice if we could

Would be nice if we could put up a mural like this the corner of Garey Ave. and E. Second St. The two gentlemen you see, are walking east, on Second St., crossing Garey Ave. The trolley car is traveling north on Garey Ave. And Orange Belt Emporium is right behind, the trolley.
Did you know that the trolley yard use to be, located down over on W. Second and Oak St. Now there is a recycling center there now. But if you go by there today, and look over into their back lot. Which runs along side Second St.. You can see a old wooden boxcar, that they use for storage. Can't say for sure, if it was part of the trolley yard, but it looks pretty historic just sitting there.

Pretty cool, right Porky!
Sure is Ren.
OK, now say goodbye Porky

Pomona Police conducting "Know Your Limit" detail on Friday, January 26th, 2018

Know Your Limit
An Educational Approach to DUI Prevention

The Pomona Police Department will be conducting a “Know Your Limit” operation in Downtown Pomona and other areas in the City on Friday, January 26th, 2018.

This DUI education and awareness program is about helping people make a better choice to not drive under the influence. The effects of impaired driving can lead to serious injury or death and have severe financial penalties.  Pomona Police encourages everyone to designate a sober driver and make good choices.

Pomona Police officers will be in and around establishments that serve alcohol between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. to initiate friendly and consensual conversation with patrons who are drinking and socializing.  Once officers explain the educational goal, volunteers will be offered the use of a professional PAS breathalyzer device to show what their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level is versus what they think it is.  The patron has the ability to, without consequence; provide a breath sample to determine his or her BAC. Many are surprised to see how quickly their BAC level is rising. Regardless of the results patrons are provided educational pamphlets that reinforce the dangers and risks of DUI driving.  No one is arrested regardless of the results.  This is meant to be a low key, positive interaction with businesses and patrons in our community. This program is intended to be high visibility and draw attention to the educational message.

Many DUI violations occur at or near the legal limit of .08% BAC. Frequently these violators are simply unaware of the way alcohol affects them and the rate at which the body metabolizes alcohol. The ability to educate the public in a social setting where they are consuming alcohol is a unique manner by which to drive home the message of “Know Your Limit.” The goal of the Know Your Limit program is not to validate a level of intoxication, but rather to educate the patron who may not realize they are nearing or even over the legal limit to drive.

In California, a first-time DUI conviction can result in up to 6 months imprisonment or 3-years probation, legal costs up to $10,000, suspension of a driver’s license for up six months, and vehicle impounded fees.  A special “police taxi” is used during each operation. It is marked as half police radio car and half yellow taxi cab marked with the theme “CHOOSE YOUR RIDE.”

Know Your Limit has become a very popular public relations tool and Pomona Police has embraced this opportunity to educate the public and keep the community safe.  In California, this deadly crime led to 914 deaths and over 24,000 serious injuries in 2014 because someone failed to designate a sober driver.  Nationally, the latest data shows over 10,000 were killed by an impaired driver. Over the course of the past three years, data shows DUI collisions have claimed 10 lives and resulted in 132 crashes harming 155 of our friends and neighbors in Pomona.

The Pomona Police Department has conducted 19 “Know Your Limit” operations since October 2016. Officers have administered over 230 breath tests, visited 102 bars/restaurants, and contacted over 1575 people.  We have received very positive feedback from citizens.

Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone.  The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more.  The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and even a tab for the non-DD to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

Funding for Know Your Limit is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who reminds everyone to be alert and ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911’ immediately!

That Time a Guy Parachuted Onto Devils Tower and No One Could Figure Out How to Get Him down

Todays find and Porky is getting sleeper, No I'm not!!

Every once in a while, someone or some people, leave out some food, for anyone who might need it. So today there was this case of BEEF STEW, that once again, someone was cool enough to drop off these here packs, of BEEF STEW. There was a case of 30 or so of these packs inside the box. So I took three, for later in the week, date Aug. of 2019, plenty of time.
Bad thing about this, the sodium is 470, hmm, maybe I should think about this first.
Don't worry, Dee O Gee and I will take of them.
Yeah I bet you will.

Ok for the next find, these here very small clothespins. Now what the heck would someone use these for. Sitting here looking at these things, and I can't figure them out. You can't use them to hang anything. Or maybe you can hang them from something, like nose hairs (Porky's ideal).
Ok Porky, come here lets try them on you.
No way Ren!
OK Porky, I'll wait till your sleeping, then I'll clip them on.
I wont sleep!
Porky, your getting sleepy, your eye lids are soo heavy, sleeper and sleeper your getting.
Stop it!!
