Pomona Police Homeless Encampment Action Response Team (HEART) recovers nearly $9,000 in stolen property from transient encampments.



On 05/16/2021 the Pomona Police Department Homeless Encampment Action Response Team (HEART) responded to reports of a large encampment near the northbound SR-71 off-ramp at Mission Bl.  The encampment was reported to be along the embankment in a high fire area.  Hidden amongst the encampment, officers located approximately $2,500 in stolen tools and materials taken during a recent burglary at a nearby business.  The tools were still in the retail packaging.  The stolen property was recovered and returned to the business.  There is still additional property outstanding and no suspects have been identified.  The investigation is still ongoing.

Later that same day, the team responded to a large encampment along the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks near Oak St.  The encampment was reported to be near dry brush in a high fire area.  Hidden amongst the encampment officers located approximately $6,500 in stolen property taken during a recent burglary of a Union Pacific Train.  This property was also still in retail packaging.  The stolen property was recovered and turned over to the Union Pacific Railroad Police.  No suspects have been identified.  This investigation is still ongoing.

The Pomona Homeless Encampment Action Response Team (HEART) consists of Pomona Police Officers and Public Works Employees from the City of Pomona.  The Team responds to reports of encampments on City property prioritizing encampmnets in high fire areas and encempments blocking public right of way.  When possible, notice for removal is posted prior to property being stored.
