Price of Gas Drops Yet Again

 
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County decreased 1.2 cents today to $3.597, its lowest amount since Dec. 28.
The average price has dropped 23 consecutive days and 71 of the past 72 and is 6.9 cents less than one week ago and 23.2 cents lower than one month ago but 4.5 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
Over the past 72 days, the average price has fallen $1.108, including 1.2 cents on Wednesday. It decreased for 48 consecutive days, was unchanged Nov. 27 and resumed dropping the next day.
The Orange County average price decreased today for the 73rd consecutive day, falling nine-tenths of a cent to $3.562, its lowest amount since Dec. 27.
The Orange County average price has decreased $1.128 over the past 73 days, including 1.4 cents on Wednesday, after rising 51.3 cents over the previous six days to a record high of $4.69 on Oct. 8.
The Orange County average price is 7.1 cents less than one week ago and 22.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 4.3 cents more than one year ago. The streak of dropping prices is the longest since a 90-day streak from Sept. 16-Dec. 14, 2008.
Gasoline prices traditionally drop to their lowest amounts of the year from November through January because of decreased demand, according to Marie Montgomery Nordhues of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
