Police: You May Hear the Sound of Gunfire and a Car Chase

If it sounded like all sort of trouble was breaking loose at the Pomona Fairplex Monday, it was, La Verne Police officials said. But not to worry, it’s only a TV show. The department warned residents that a film crew was working at the horse-racing track at the Pomona Fairplex throughout the day. The crew was shooting a television pilot for a crime/thriller show, Leslie Galerne-Smith, Public Relations and Communications Manager with the Fairplex said through email. "They’re shooting a gunfight scene in our grandstands," Galerne-Smith wrote. "We’re excited to have them here and work closely with the entertainment industry in an effort to encourage more filming on our grounds." Fairplex has served as the backdrop for a number of films and shows over the years including "Seabiscuit," starring Jeff Bridges and Tobey Maguire, and the Bruce Willis action film "Die Hard," as well as countless commercial shoots, Galerne-Smith said. It possible that residents around the Fairplex, at 1101 W. McKinley Ave. in Pomona, might have heard the sound of gunfire and speeding vehicles, La Verne Police officials said. The show was being shot for 20th Century Fox studios, police officials said.
