Cyclists, Cycling Fans Roll Into the Redlands Bicycle Classic
Several hundred cyclists hit the streets of Downtown Redlands Saturday for annual Bicycle Classic.
The day included public races, the paracycling criterium, and stage three of the overall criterium, a timed race.
Warm weather and blue skies helped the race draw a large crowd near the finish line. Redlands-Loma Linda Patch will have result as soon as they are available.
Alison Powers maintained her hold on the leader's yellow jersey by winning the stage, followed closely by Joelle Numainville and Loren Rowney. Powers leads second place rider Tayler Wiles by 54 seconds going into the Sunset Road Race.
On the men's side, Juan Jose Haedo won a tight sprint to the finish line, edging out Charles Huff and Luis Amaran at the line.
The men's field is a little tighter going into the final stage. Chad Haga of the Optum team holds a five second lead over Francesco Mancebo (of 5 Hour Energy). Haga's teammate Tom Zirbel is eight seconds back, while Mancebo's teammate David Williams is 13 seconds back. And Jamis Hagens Berman teammates Luis Amaran and Ben Jacques Maynes are 15 seconds off the pace.
The event continues at 7:10 a.m. Sunday with a criterium for men. The main women's race starts at 10 a.m.
