Road Closure to Enable Tree Removal

Claremont residents used to traveling near the Metrolink station might want to find an alternate route Tuesday and Wednesday, city officials said.
College Avenue is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 9 and 10 from First Street to just south of the train station while Metrolink removes six trees adjacent to the tracks, city officials said.
“The removal of these trees is necessary to create an open line-of-sight for the microwave communication network as required by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority passenger safety enhancement initiative,” City Manager Tony Ramos wrote in his weekly update. “Currently, the trees scheduled for removal are blocking the microwave’s path, which can in turn affect communication efficiency among Metrolink Operation Centers.”
Five of the six trees will be removed from the parking lot side, and require the closure of a portion of the Metrolink parking lot, Ramos said. The remaining tree will require the closure of College Avenue from the south side of First Street to just north of the College Park entrance, he said.
A pathway at the west side of College Avenue is being maintained for pedestrian access, officials said.
Tree removals are being done during the daytime for safety reasons. To minimize the impact on motorists the worked was scheduled during the Claremont Unified School District’s Spring Break, officials said.
City officials ask anyone with questions about the tree removal and street closure may call the City’s Engineering Division at (909) 399-5465.
