Comic Book Shop Fills 'Hunger" With Art Show

Comic book store A Shop Called Quest wanted to make a big impression with its first art exhibit at its recently opened Claremont location.
And they went really big, turning the spotlight on Marvel Comics' devourer of worlds, Galactus, in an exhibit titled "I Hunger."
The exhibit featured the purple helmeted cosmic villain in various poses, both sinister and hilarious, including one of Galactus behind a strategically placed sign at a nude beach, complete with his helmet and former herald, the Silver Surfer, in the background.
The store, which has another location in Redlands, opened near the Laemmle Theaters in March.
Crowds were streaming in and out of the store, as a DJ played music. Besides looking at the art, the store's regular stock of books, action figures and toys were on display for purchase.
The show was held at the end of Free Comic Book Day, a yearly event that spotlights comics and comic book stores with a variety of books handed out to the public from the various publishers.
