Numerous victims of identity theft from the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Diamond Bar, El Monte, Glendora, La Puente, La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena, Pomona, San Dimas, Santa Ana, Santa Clara, Temple City, West Covina, Yorba Linda. Suspect: Desiree Rebecca Gurba 37 year-old female. Pomona resident. On July 21, 2014, the San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force received information as to the whereabouts of Desiree Gurba, an East Los Angeles gang member, wanted on a No-Bail Parole violation as well as an on-going narcotics case out of Pomona. Suspect Gurba was aware that she was wanted and was hiding in an unknown apartment located at 275 W. Phillips Blvd., in the City of Pomona. Information was received indicating that Gurba was heavily involved in identity theft, counterfeiting money, sales of methamphetamine and the smuggling of narcotics into the jail system. On July 21, 2014, the AB109 Task Force set up surveillance on the apartment building. Through contacts and interviews conducted during this investigation, it was confirmed that Gurba was in a specific apartment. Officers made contact at the location and Gurba was arrested in her bedroom. A parole search of that room revealed extensive evidence of identity theft, counterfeiting and the possession of numerous stolen government issued identifications. Fourteen (14) victims of identity theft, vehicle burglary, and residential burglary have been contacted and desire prosecution. Currently, detectives are working on identifying an additional thirty (30) potential victims. The US Secret Service has been brought into the this investigation due to the nature of the crime and thefts of government identification cards. The San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force is a multi-agency team comprised of officers from Azusa, Baldwin Park, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, Pomona, La Verne, including the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles County Probation Department. Their primary responsibility is to conduct compliance checks on those individuals who have been released from prison under AB109 to ensure that they are in compliance with their terms of release. The Task Force is responsible for enforcement in the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, Irwindale, Pomona, La Verne, West Covina and Whittier.
