                                NATIONAL MONTE CRISTO DAY

National Monte Cristo Day is celebrated annually on September 17. This is a day to indulge and enjoy an excellent sandwich.
A Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich. It is a variation of a French sandwich called a croque-monsieur. The Monte Cristo is also sometimes called French Sandwich, Toasted Ham Sandwich, and French Toasted Cheese Sandwich.
The Monte Cristo is typically a savory sandwich rather than sweet.  It is usually dipped in egg batter and either pan fried or deep fried. Variations may include sliced turkey and different types of cheese. It can be served grilled or open-faced and heated under a grill or broiler. It can also be sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with jam or preserves.
The restaurant Bennigan’s is renowned across the globe for its World Famous Monte Cristo.

CONSTITUTION DAY AND CITIZENSHIP DAY

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is an American federal observance that commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of the United States and those who have become United States citizens.  This day is observed  each year on September 17, which is the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787.

HISTORY
This holiday dates all the way back to 1911 where schools in Iowa first recognized Constitution Day.  The Sons of the American Revolution formed a committee to promote Constitution Day in 1917.  Calvin Coolidge, John D. Rockefeller and General John Pershing were part of that committee.

NATIONAL APPLE DUMPLING DAY

National Apple Dumpling Day is observed annually on September 17th.  These delicious filled pastries are typically made by putting cored and peeled apples on a piece of dough, sprinkling them with cinnamon and sugar,  then folding the dough over the apples to form a dumpling.  The dumplings are then oven baked until tender.
Apple dumplings are believed to be native to northeastern United States, around Pennsylvania.  Being very common among the  Amish, with their delicious recipe, it is often eaten as a breakfast item however, they are also regularly eaten as a dessert and sometimes served with ice cream.

Perhaps you can enjoy eating some apple dumplings while watching the 1975 Walt Disney Movie, “The Apple Dumpling Gang”.
