Two People Are Swept Away and Rescued During Heavy Rains
This morning Pomona Police Officers and LA County Fire personnel responded to the 2100 block of Pomona Blvd on a report that two people had been swept away from a storm drain due to the heavy rains. Eyewitnesses confirmed the report and provided first responders with descriptions.
Both victims were rescued from the San Jose Creek in the City of Industry and South El Monte. They were taken to a local hospital and did not suffer and serious injuries.
During heavy rains, flood control channels and storm drains become very dangerous. With the possibility of a strong El Nino event this winter, people will need to be extra cautious and avoid these areas. What may appear to be a smooth flowing stream has dangerous underwater currents, floating objects and debris. We encourage everyone to stay away and stay safe.
