Undercover Operation Results in Felony Arrest

CRIME:  496 PC – Possession of Stolen Property
VICTIM: Covina Resident
SUSPECT:   Gabriel Chavez, 33 Year old, Pomona Resident
UNIT:   Special Investigations Unit /Investigative Services Division
NARRATIVE:
On 02-01-18 the Pomona Police Special Investigative Unit (S.I.U) and the Pomona Police Department Detective Bureau conducted an undercover operation. The goal of this operation was to identify and apprehend a suspect in possession of stolen property taken during an auto burglary in Pomona. The victim of this crime had identified her stolen Louis Vuitton purse and wallet on a social media App and contacted Detectives. A possible suspect was identified and contacted via the App. The undercover investigators met with the suspect who was attempting to sell the property for $1000.00 and verified the items. The suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Pomona Police Department for a Felony Possession of Stolen Property. His bail is set at $20,000.
The Special Investigative Unit is a newly founded field team designed to focus on major investigations within the City of Pomona.
