Pomona Police Department to hold DUI/ CDL Checkpoint and DUI Saturation Patrols this week
INCIDENT: Traffic Safety Checkpoint & DUI Citywide Patrols
DATE/TIME: Friday January 31st, 2020
Checkpoint 9pm – 3am
Patrols 7pm-3am
LOCATION: DUI Checkpoint at undisclosed location (DUI Patrols citywide)
UNIT: Traffic Services
Pomona, Calif. – Pomona Police Department will hold a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on 1/31/20 from 9.00 PM to 3:00 AM at an undisclosed location within the city of Pomona. In addition, Pomona Police Department will conduct DUI saturation patrols on 1/31/20 aimed at getting impaired drivers off the road.
DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are done in locations with a higher frequency of DUI-related collisions and arrests. During the checkpoint, officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing.
In 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads. In 2017, the Pomona Police Department investigated 127 DUI collisions which claimed 1 life and resulted in another 49 injuries.
Pomona Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI.
Pomona Police Department offers these tips to ensure you have a safe night of fun that doesn’t involve a DUI:

Pomona Police Department offers these tips to ensure you have a safe night of fun that doesn’t involve a DUI:
- Always use a designated sober driver – a friend who is not drinking, ride-share, cab or public transportation – to get home.
- See someone who is clearly impaired try and drive? Take the keys and help them make other arrangements to find a sober way home.
- Report drunk drivers – Call 911.
- Hosting a party? Offer nonalcoholic drinks. Monitor who is drinking and how they are getting home.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be upwards of $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time.
Funding for these enforcement efforts are provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, who conceived it with Roger Avary. Starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles. The title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogueTarantino wrote Pulp Fiction in 1992 and 1993, incorporating scenes that Avary originally wrote for True Romance (1993). Its plot occurs out of chronological order. The film is also self-referential from its opening moments, beginning with a title card that gives two dictionary definitions of "pulp". Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations with eclectic dialogue revealing each character's perspectives on several subjects, and the film features an ironic combination of humor and strong violence. TriStar Pictures reportedly turned down the script as "too demented". Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein was enthralled, however, and the film became the first that Miramax fully financed.
Pulp Fiction won the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was a major critical and commercial success. It was nominated for seven awards at the 67th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Original Screenplay; it earned Travolta, Jackson, and Thurman Academy Award nominations and boosted their careers. Its development, marketing, distribution, and profitability had a sweeping effect on independent cinema.Pulp Fiction is widely regarded as Tarantino's masterpiece, with particular praise for its screenwriting. The self-reflexivity, unconventional structure, and extensive homage and pastiche have led critics to describe it as a touchstone of postmodern film. It is often considered a cultural watershed, influencing movies and other media that adopted elements of its style. In 2008, Entertainment Weekly named it the best film since 1983 and it has appeared on many critics' lists of the greatest films ever made. In 2013, Pulp Fiction was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant

Ren's Then and Now
The old First National Bank, located on the northwest corner of W. Second St. and Main St. back in the 1880's. At one time the Pomona Public Library was located on the top floor.
And today it remains empty. Back in the 1980's I use to bank there, it was a nice old bank, I hope we can save it. Would make a good school for the arts.
Ren's Then and Now
Looking east on Second St. cross street is Main St. back in 1962. I believe what's going on here, is the people gathering for the coming of the Pomona Mall.
And do today, well anyway it was a nice idea at the time.
Ren's Then and Now
The California Theater located on the northwest corner of Thomas and Third St. back in the 1920's and to the late 1930's. Then it moved to where the United Artist Theater would be later.
Today it's a restaurant and the Theater is now a church.
