City News Service reported that Michael Roa was recently hired back as a lifeguard by El Monte, but has since resigned from the post so that he could "move on and apply for other jobs."
The Gangnam Style Youtube video he and coworkers made last summer went viral getting attention from city officials who then moved to dismiss 13 lifeguards and a supervisor. The controversy then went worldwide and the Youtube video has since been viewed more than two million times.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported that city officials interviewed the fired lifeguards and offered some of them their seasonal jobs back. City officials were not clear how many offers were made, according to City News Service.
Roa, a graduate student at ULV, lives with his parents and has applied to be a lifeguard or swim instructor elsewhere, according to City News Service.
"We can't lie on our application," Roa told The Times. "Employers figure out we've been fired, no one wants to give us a chance."
Another lifeguard, Daniel Surmenian, told the newspaper he also resigned and is looking to put his new chemical engineering degree to work.
