National Caramel Apple Day is observed annually on October 31. A fun memory from many people’s childhoods is eating caramel apples in the fall. It may have been at a fair, carnival, Halloween party or just home with family and friends, but the memory is a good one and part of the fun was making them. [ 802 more words ]

Toxicology report shows Jose Fernandez drunk, used cocaine

Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez had cocaine in his system and was legally drunk when he was killed in a boating accident last month, according to autopsy and toxicology reports obtained by ESPN on Saturday.

A toxicology report from the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Departmentshowed that cocaine and multiple other substances were detected in Fernandez's blood. Fernandez, 24, had a blood alcohol content of .147, nearly twice the legal limit, when his boat crashed into a Miami Beach jetty Sept. 25.

Two of Fernandez's friends, Emilio Jesus Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, were also killed in the crash. Their toxicology reports show that neither was past the blood alcohol legal limit, though cocaine was found in Rivero's blood.

Dr. Kenneth Hutchins, associate medical examiner, wrote in the reportthat each man had suffered blunt-force injuries to his head and body.

It is unknown who was driving the boat at the time of the crash.

Ralph Fernandez, the family's attorney and of no relation to the pitcher, told The Miami Herald that investigators have strong evidence that Fernandez was not piloting the boat. He called the cocaine use out of character for the pitcher.

"That leads me to think, could this be an isolated incident? Yes. Could this have been involuntary? Yes. Why do you think there's still a criminal investigation pending?" the attorney said.

Authorities have interviewed a "highly reliable" witness who said he was on the phone with Fernandez just before the crash and heard the pitcher giving another person directions about where to steer the boat, he said.

"If you tell me that he'd been drinking, I'd say, 'So?'" Ralph Fernandez said. "He wasn't driving, and he was very careful about that."

Players with Major League Baseball contracts have been tested for performance-enhancing substances since 2004, and violations are announced publicly, but there is no random testing for drugs such as cocaine, and players generally aren't suspended for abusing those drugs unless they fail to comply with a treatment program or are convicted for drug use, possession, sale or distribution.

USA Today, citing a high-ranking MLB official, reported Saturday night thatFernandez never tested positive for cocaine under the league's drug-testing program, nor was he in any type of drug rehab.

"His death was a tragedy," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said before Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, according to USA Today. "These facts were unfortunate. But it doesn't alter the fact he was a great, great player, a good young man, and he will be sorely missed in Miami."

The Marlins and Fernandez's agent, Scott Boras, declined to comment on theautopsy and toxicology reports.

Chris Royer, a Fort Lauderdale lawyer representing family members of Macias and Rivero, told the Sun Sentinel that his clients had been told about the findings and would make a statement after taking some time to discuss the reports.

The bodies had a strong odor of alcohol on them when they were recovered by divers, and investigators found evidence that the boat was speeding when it slammed into the jetty, according to a search warrant affidavit released this week by the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office. The affidavit said officials had recovered a receipt for alcohol from American Social Bar & Kitchen, where the trio had been before the crash.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez directed the medical examiner's office to release the autopsy reports Saturday, a day after The Miami Herald sued the medical examiner's office seeking their release.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state agency investigating the crash, previously refused to release the reports. Gimenez said state officials also refused to join the county as co-defendants in The Herald's public records lawsuit.

The autopsy reports "will provide invaluable information to FWC investigators as they conduct a thorough and complete investigation," wildlife commission spokeswoman Susan Smith said in an email.

U.S. Coast Guard officials have said they will examine lighting at the South Beach jetty where the boat crashed. Fernandez, the National League Rookie of the Year in 2013 and a two-time All-Star, owned the 32-foot SeaVee named Kaught Looking.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

BREAKING: Obama Just Caught Trying to Sabotage New FBI Clinton Email Investigation! This is SICK…

Mayor Elliott Rothman and Councilwoman Paula Lantz have been in office too long

Rothman and Lantz have been in office too long
Pomona mayor Elliot Rothman and Councilwoman Paula Lantz have been in office for a combined total of more than 40 years, and today Pomona has the dubious distinction of being listed among the 10 most dangerous cities in California! What were they doing all of this time?
Well, Rothman won his first mayoral race by collecting 47 one-thousand-dollar checks — some were illegal — largely orchestrated by the trash-mafia that has entered our city. Four years later, he was given campaign contributions to orchestrate the Valley Vista trash transfer station, for which he is still benefiting from in this election cycle.
Paula Lantz, on the other hand, contrary to her self-righteous image, has always been a front for big money. As a new council member in 1992, I personally battled against her as she fronted for a $1.7 million giveaway to a nonprofit run by friends of hers (the project went bankrupt and the city lost the money).
And her associates have continued to benefit from her generosity with taxpayers’ money. A recent HUD investigation of Lantz cited conflicts of interest that have benefited developers.
If these two politicians were leading a private corporation, they would have been fired a long time ago. Instead, they oversee a $200 million government entity where the stockholders and taxpayers are just not paying attention.
Twenty-five years for Paula Lantz, 20 years for Elliot Rothman — that’s just too long, especially when you look at the city’s dismal performance.

Remeber this picture when you go vote

That's Mayor Moochie giving you all the finger and that's his son Jason sitting next to him. And it seems it doesn't bother Jason that his scum ball dad is giving the finger, like I'm sure the apple doesn't fall from the tree.
So like the title says remember this picture when you go vote, do we really need this jerk to represent us. I think not.
And one more thing, Moochie does your wife know that Moochie is Gina's Escobar sugar daddy.
If not well she does now.
And what I understand is Gina is getting sued for none payment of rent that she owes for that dump she called a business.
Another crook exposed.
I guess maybe Moochie will help out with that money he hasn't returned. and again Moochie where is that money. Is it in cold storage at the Pomona Food Locker, you know the place, that's the business that your so called Godfather owns.
Follow the money

The Kaiser Tract was built in 1946 by the Kaiser Community Homes Project. The opening of the Kaiser Steel plant in nearby Fontana exacerbated the housing shortage created by lack of construction during WWII. These reasonably priced homes were built not only for Kaiser Steel employees, but for Veterans as well. A partnership between Kaiser Steel industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sydney Garfield to provide healthcare to Kaiser shipyard workers eventually evolved into what is now Kaiser Permanente. The employees of the Kaiser Fontana steel plant were the first to be able to purchase complete medical coverage for a family of four for $1.80 a week. #125to125 #CelebrateOntar

Woman who had been missing for 5 days found trapped in vehicle in Adelanto

Fire crews rescued a woman who had been missing for five days when she was found trapped inside of an overturned vehicle in Adelanto.

Crews with the San Bernardino County Fire Department headed out to reports of a traffic crash near Torosa Road, west of Highway 395, around 6:11 p.m. When crews arrived, they found a vehicle rolled over.

They were able to stabilize the car and extract the woman who was trapped inside within an hour. Authorities said during the rescue operation, it was discovered that the woman had been reported missing five days earlier.
