Local College Board President Joins State Board

Mrs. Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, was recently elected to the California Community College Trustees Board of Directors, or the CCCT.

The CCCT is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation whose voluntary membership consists of the 72 community college districts in California. Keith, who represents Claremont and portions of Pomona and La Verne, will join a 21-member board of directors that were elected by the members of the state’s community college governing boards.

The longtime trustee ran for the CCCT seat on a platform advocating collaboration and open communication.

“If we work together with our Chancellor’s Office and other partners in education, we can enhance the brilliance of California’s education system,” she stated. Keith has a career spanning 43 years in higher education marketing, public relations, and nonprofit fund development.
Her professional work includes positions at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Pitzer College and Claremont Graduate University.

The Claremont resident has an impressive community service record.  In addition to serving on a number of community boards and civic organizations, Keith was on the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education for 12 years and president of the Baldy View ROP Commission.

Currently, Keith is a board member for Options, a child care and human services agency, and Kiwanis Club of Claremont.  She also is a member of Claremont Heritage, the Claremont Area League of Women Voters, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens and The Huntington Library

In addition, Keith has been honored with the Outstanding Young Women of America award, YWCA Women of Achievement Award, Community Hero Award from the Los Angeles County Fair Association and Richard S. Kirkendall Extraordinary Contribution Award.

“On behalf of the Citrus Community College faculty, staff and fellow Board of Trustees members, I congratulate Board President Keith on her election to the CCCT,” Dr. Geraldine Perri, PhD., superintendent/president said.  “All of her work within the education system makes her the ideal choice for the board of directors.  We are more than confident that the skills, knowledge and expertise that Mrs. Keith has brought to Citrus College will greatly benefit the state’s 112 community colleges.”
