Man Jumps Off 57 Freeway North of Walnut

A 32-year-old Garden Grove man apparently jumped to his death Sunday from a four-level overpass on the Orange (57) Freeway and landed on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona, a California Highway Patrol officer reported.

The man's name was not released immediately, but the CHP said he had been driving a 1996 Honda.

His remains were found on the shoulder of the westbound 10, just west of the Kellogg Drive exit ramp, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.
Witnesses told the CHP they saw the man jump about 7 a.m.
According to the CHP accident report obtained by City News Service, the fall was measured at 115 feet.

The man died at the scene and his name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
His vehicle was found stopped on the right shoulder of the southbound 57 Freeway near the overpass, with the keys in the ignition and the car still running, the CHP reported.

There was nothing mechanically wrong with his vehicle, according to the CHP report.

The ensuing death investigation by the CHP temporarily shut down the two right lanes lanes on the 10 Freeway, the Kellogg Drive offramp and transition roads from the 57 Freeway to the westbound 10 Freeway, Posada said.

A SigAlert was issued by the CHP. The roads were cleared at 10:35 a.m. and the SigAlert was canceled, Posada said. There was no information regarding why the man apparently committed suicide, she said.

Officers asked anyone with information on the incident to call the CHP's Baldwin Park office at 626-338-1164.
