Pomona Host Lions win district honors

The Pomona Host Lions won an election and multiple top awards at the Lions District 4-L4 Convention held in Palm Springs. The district includes all of Orange County and parts of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
At the convention, Pomona Host Lion Gil Smith was elected to District 4-L4 Lions first vice district governor, meaning next year, he will automatically succeed to district governor.
The club won District Club of the Year for its division. Then, competing with all 34 Lions clubs in the district, Pomona Host Lions President Barbara Smith received the District 4-L4 President of the Year Award. Secretary Beverly Sugerman was awarded the District Secretary of the Year honor. These awards were presented at the Governor's Ball.
Earlier at the convention, Barbara Smith was presented with the state MD4 Excellence Medal, and Gil Smith received the International President's Certificate of Appreciation and pin. The club, under project chairmen Jo Fulton and Jack Lightfoot, won the Most Visitations in Division B for traveling to meetings of every club in the district as well as to a number of other clubs' projects. Club Bulletin Editor Sugerman received a plaque for the Outstanding District Bimonthly Bulletin.
"I am so proud of everyone in the club," said Barbara Smith.
"The members worked exceedingly hard on community service projects and charities fundraisers all year long. I am personally humbled by the district awarding me the Club President of the Year."
The Pomona Host Lions Club is the oldest service organization in the Pomona Valley, having served the area for 92 years. Information, email pomonahostlions@gmail.com.
