Bear Leaves 1-Inch Puncture Wound in Dog After Confrontation in Bradbury

A bear injured a dog in Bradbury after the animals got into a scuffle Sunday morning, authorities said.

The Mastiff sustained a one-inch puncture wound after it was confronted by a bear defending her cubs in the back yard of a home in the 100 block of Mt. Olive Drive, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's news release.
Deputies arrived at the residence at about 10:37 a.m. and saw the Mastiff and a German Shepherd "barking uncontrollably" at the bears, which had climbed a tree.

"Deputies were able to safely corral the dogs which allowed the dog owners to secure the dogs inside the house," the release states. "The Mastiff sustained a one inch puncture wound to its lower back when the mama bear confronted him for chasing after her cubs."

The bears climbed back down and left the area once the dogs were secured.
