BEAR SIGHTING: Wildlife Officials, Claremont Police Capture Bear

A bear spotted wandering in the area of Baseline Road and Mills Avenue in Claremont was caught and relocated away from residential homes today by officers with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, authorities said.
Claremont Police responded to the scene sometime this morning, according to Claremont Crime Prevention Coalition. The bear was not threatening anyone, only wandering, said Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters
Fish and Wildlife officials were called and were able to dart the bear to put it to sleep for a while. Walters said the bear had been tagged and was likely known to wildlife officials.
Officers were still working on a report as of late Wednesday but a spokesperson with Fish and Game said the bear appears to be a four-year-old female. Authorities transported her to Jungle Exotics in Devore.
Members of the Claremont Crime Prevention Coalition advise residents that if any wild animals wander into your neighborhood or property, do not approach it. Instead call 9-1-1.
