5 Things to Do Before School Begins

Labor Day marks the true end of summer, when the school bell will ring in a new academic year.
But before your student climbs those school steps on the first day, there are a few things you’ll want to take care of.
Here's a list of five things to do before school begins:

1. Get your children’s check-ups and immunizations caught up
Residents can check with their local schools for requirements.
2. Find out about financial aid
From college tuition, to a first-grader’s lunch, parents have to worry about the purse strings. Free lunch programs offered via the USDA can be helpful in this pursuit.
3. Load up on school supplies
Check your child’s school’s website if you are unsure of their classroom needs. Shop online to find some of those unique educational supplies.
4. Make a pact to pack healthy lunches
Just because kids are heading back to school doesn't mean fresh summer produce is going out of season. Visit the produce section of the grocery store or the to let your kids choose healthy options to pack in their school lunches.
5. Register
Visit your district’s website to check registration and orientation dates and times.
